A horse’s sensitivity to communicating without words can provide incredible opportunities to learn about ourselves. Many of us have no idea how powerful our body language is…for good or bad. Since horses cannot lie, and they do not hold grudges they are uniquely able to provide honest, clear, and immediate communication about the effectiveness of our actions. Horses live in social groups and they value their relationships and connections with each other and us! Since horses are animals of prey, they are very aware of body language and changes in their environment. They help us practice how to stay in the present moment (be mindful) as well as practice managing emotions. They also provide opportunities to see what works, what doesn’t work, whose needs are being met, whose problem it is, and to take responsibility. Working with the horses is a fun and unique way for individuals, families and teams to learn more effective and fulfilling ways of functioning.
Instead of "just talking" about your problems, you will be working with the horses developing a relationship and finding solutions. Just like traditional therapy though, our licensed therapists will help you identify your goals and work with in-network insurance.
As animals of prey, horses give honest feedback about communication, leadership, relationship skills and self-regulation. In order to develop a good relationship with a horse (or a person), it is vital to learn how to manage emotions and thoughts in a healthy way. With horses you have the opportunity to identify strengths, weaknesses in a non-judgemental environment and then practice different solutions until you find one that works! All work is on the ground. We do not do any riding.
